IMHO the stepped piece should be the external piece. The seal is on the OD of the step, if you mount it the other way you give up the additional sealing surface of the flat. The outside seal surface is more apt to be flat than the backside also.

The seat is from hotwing glass via ebay. I built brackets to support the seat with a tongue support in front and index pin at the back with 2 bolts to keep it from being stolen.

Thanks, it's definetly a labor of love. I estimate I have about 3 years on an off labor in each bike. I like to really work out the problems before I put them together. The tank is from Grandprix glassworks and if I remember correctly its a 750 Champion. The exhaust was hand made by me before...
