Pamco E-advance: big spark, wet plugs, no start :(

I actually ended up making a new one. It's running now. I'll let you know if any more problems arise. Thanks for the help!

Pamco E-advance: big spark, wet plugs, no start :(

Thanks, Pete. It looks this is the problem: I'm pretty sure that I put the copper cap on first, but perhaps I didn't take care to snug it down properly. The locating pin has gouged the copper cap and now the advance rod has about 90° of travel. I'll email you about purchasing...

Pamco E-advance: big spark, wet plugs, no start :(

Hello everyone, I'm in the middle of a complete rewire and am completely stumped. I just bought a Pamco system with E-advance, and I'm using the PMA charging system I put in about a year ago. I have rewired the ignition and charging twice to troubleshoot the issue, and I have narrowed it...

Review of some parts purchases from MikesXS

I've had decent luck with their gaskets and seals. The seal kits say they are OEM. I just put in a new final drive seal and shift shaft seal around New Years. The old ones were super leaky. The new ones seem to be working well so far.

    mikes xs turn signals

I'm using them up front on a '77 headlight. I bought the mounting kit as well, it required some modification to fit. I don't remember exactly what - maybe trimming the rubber bushing or something. I like the look of them, but I believe one of the light sockets is a little loose and needs some...

Review of some parts purchases from MikesXS

Carb boots - total crap. Carbs pop off with kickstart backfire, and there is a crack in them in less than a year of use. Very soft, and cranking down on the clamp only makes the crack bigger. The old ones (OEM) were better. I have since bought new ones from http://jbmindustries.com/ and they...

How-To: Permanent Magnet Alternator Swap (Also known as the Banshee Swap)

I've had my swap running for a few months and it is working great. I see no downsides. Charge is good and it seems to provide plenty of power - I just added heated gloves to my system (woohoo for warm hands!) and there seems to be no difference in the amount of power reaching the battery...

How-To: Permanent Magnet Alternator Swap (Also known as the Banshee Swap)

Speaking from the viewpoint of someone who just went through the process, I would recommend getting the whole shebang from Hugh's shop (he's not paying me to say this, I promise). I bought his adapter and rec/reg, and sourced all the other parts independently to try to save some money. In the...

How-To: Permanent Magnet Alternator Swap (Also known as the Banshee Swap)

No, it's not too harsh. I am strongly leaning that way - the stock wiring is waaaaay over-engineered. I just don't have the time to do a complete re-wire right now. I have already ditched a ton of the stock relays etc so now there are endless plugs hanging about, and I can barely remember...

How-To: Permanent Magnet Alternator Swap (Also known as the Banshee Swap)

OK, well with it hooked up it runs fine, though I'm still not sure if it's charging. Now I don't have a headlight :( I tried disabling the reserve headlight crappo, but still no go (I short-circuited the blue-black and the blue-yellow that go into the reserve). I've got an '83 SJ with a...

How-To: Permanent Magnet Alternator Swap (Also known as the Banshee Swap)

OK, so I've set up my system using Hugh's adapter plate & RR, and I got a Banshee timing plate/flywheel and a Suzuki VZ800 stator (98). I haven't actually connected the R/R to the wiring harness yet. With a fully-charged battery, I turned on the bike (it's running just off the battery, the...

'82 front caliper - broken bolt

Thanks. My manual actually didn't have a torque for that bolt specifically - just for the caliper bracket bolts (~30 ft/lbs) and for the banjo bolts (~12 ft/lbs). I went with the torque setting for the bracket bolts, but luckily it's not stripped out. The broken end was stuck in the threaded...

'82 front caliper - broken bolt

Hey all, After rebuilding my calipers, I was reinstalling them and broke a bolt. I was torquing them, but it seemed that I wasn't even coming close to the torque setting (30 lb/ft) before it gave out on me. This is NOT one of the two bolts that attaches the caliper bracket to the fork...
