clean inside wheel hub after sandblast

Trying to remove something (sandblast grit) with something (air or solvent) requires that the something that is being removed (sandblast grit) be suspended in what is removing it (air or solvent). Massive amounts of the remover (air or solvent) is better at removing something especially (as is...

clean inside wheel hub after sandblast

Soap and water and a brush. Repeat. final clean-up with thinner on a rag. Japanese aluminum castings are infamous for holding blaster grit.

    Battery Acid

Because of the 25 pgs of "safety warnings" in the front of a weekwaker manual we tend to ignore and lot of safety concerns that SHOULD concern us. When messing with wet cell batteries WEAR SAFETY GOGGLES; RUBBER GLOVES; AND HAVE BAKING SODA AND RUNNING WATER NEARBY. NO OPEN FLAMES (Hydrogen...

Rear brake lock up while riding

Old Japanese disk brakes tend to drag on the rotor. This creates heat. If there is ANY air or water in the brake fluid it expands with the heat and the problem increases exponentially as the fluid pressure is applied to the pads through the calipers. Brake drag increases and can lead to a fully...

Cheapest way to ship a frame?

put a used axle or wood block between the rear frame forks to keep them from being squished (same to front forks if they are attached to trees. Easy to build a box out of 2x6s and plywood sides. Home Depot or Lowes will do most of the cuts for free and using drywall screws and a drill will...

    Sandblasting Engine

The consensus in the motoring world is that it is impossible (minus maybe ultrasonic cleaning) to completely remove blasting media from the internals of an engine (or to keep blasting media out of the inside of an engine being blasted on the outside). This being true, it is essential to use a...

Best way to go for 18inch wheels

Getting tires for 19" is more and more problematic. As a Norton Commando owner I know. It you are going to re-rim a spoked hub I would certainly go with 17", the standard sport-touring size for about the last 15 years.

    Anyone run rear drum only

Since the thread has been hijacked anyway (I am guilty as charged) thought I would add another 2 cents. If you have the option, take off the rear brake entirely. Learn to stop using your front brake only. If you are in an emergency situation and you are used to using your back brake THAT is...

    Anyone run rear drum only

Locking the rear wheel is not the problem...almost any brake (disk or drum) can do THAT. The problem is stopping the bike...not just the rear wheel. Weight transfer upon braking unloads the rear wheel so it is easy, to easy, to lock. But locking the rear wheel does not stop the bike, it...

Stuck filter housing bolt (Heiden cooler mod) - SOLVED

Anti-seize compound (or Locktite) on Japanese nuts and bolts is a must. The high silicone content of Japanese aluminum makes it corrode faster than higher quality aluminum. Japanese forged "lead" nuts and bolts don't help either. In the old days (before allen head) you simply could not work on...

    High altitude Carburation-High CR Pistons?

Hi All, 1981 xs650. Am moving from sea level to 6500'. Bike will not be used below 5000'. Thinking that adding high compression pistons (say 10.5-11.00) will help squeeze in more oxygen molecules in the thin air at 6500' (poor mans supercharging). I can lean out the carbs to get the right...

Anyone ride with a mesh jacket?

I commuted summer and winter into Washington D.C. (33 miles) on motorcycle for over 30 years. In the summer, 85*+ with high humidity a mesh jacket was the only way I could WEAR a jacket. About a cool as shirt sleeves (i.e. no more miserable) with infinitely more protection. In high humidity...

    Drilled mag wheels?

What he said. Notice that the Buell hub only supports the weight of the bike and rider. It does not have to deal with the torque of braking as that torque is directed directly to the wheel rim NOT the wheel hub. Notice the pic of the Buell 1125cr where the front brake disk is attached...

    Drilled mag wheels?

Remember, the Buell front wheels utilized a perimeter brake disk specifically to lighten the torque load of braking at the hub and direct the torque to the rim. Do NOT take the Buell spoke pattern to be safe with a hub centric brake arrangement. Zorpman
