Mike's XS Master Cylinder #08-0255 / Upper brake hose #29-6525

I installed these on my 1981 XS650H today. I'm still fooling around with the adjustment, but it works. The master cylinder is made for level handlebars, so on my stock bars I had to slide it forward until it was level to fill it and bleed it. Then I put the cover on and slid it back into its...

    front master cylinder

Was reading some on 650 m/c's on the forums last night. Kinda sounds like my '72 master cylinder is kinda hard to come by in working order. Not sure WHY mine works, but it does... So, I was thinking that maybe there were other 650 years that used the round m/c similar to mine in appearance...

New caliper seals the wrong size?

Are my new caliper seals the wrong size? See image, I've put the new on top of the old. The new is approx 3 mm wider than the old. Before contacting the seller I want to know if I missed something. I just can't get them to fit in the caliper. I ordered them from Powerhouse Automotive in the...

how do I take apart a 1981 master cylinder?

I bought a used master cylinder on eBay. Cosmetically it looks great but the reservoir was full of rust and sludge. I tried to clean it out but nothing goes through when I squeeze the lever. I tried holding the lever down and blowing air through the hole in the bottom. No go. Is there a way to...

1981 front brakes - need help

Does anyone have a picture of how the shims go in for my 1981 front brake caliper? As some of you may remember, I recently rebuilt my front caliper. It worked fine for a day. Next day I took the bike to a shop to have the wheels relaced. About 10 blocks from the shop the caliper froze up...

    Stainless steel caliper pistons

I'm thinking of buying stainless steel caliper pistons instead of traditional ones. The store is reliable, sells rd parts and normally sells them to yamaha rd owners, but has also sold these to xs owners. What's your opinion on stainless vs ordinary steel like those sold at i.e mikesxs or...

    1972 XS2 front brake switch

Anyone have a picture the can send me of how the front brake switch hooks up to the master cylinder / brake lever on a 1972 XS2? Also am I correct in thinking that the switch inside the decompression lever is the starter motor switch? Thanks Dave

    Rear Disc only suicide machine

I know I know I'm an idiot. With fresh pads I can lock the rear up no problem. I was wondering if there is an adjustment or trick for the disc brakes to get a little better stopping power. The pads on it are barely worn and I'm full of fluid but I can't get it to lock up right now am not sure why.

Need info on mag to spoke conversion please!!

I have a 1981 xs650 special that I am working on chopping up and I just ordered a set of aluminum 1975 xs650 19" front and 18" rear for my build. Does all the guts and wheel hub & brakes from the rear change over from the mag to the spoke or will I have to find parts for that too? If so is there...

brake disc don't fit with new brake pads

Have a B -75... with 34 mm forks. So, I bought a new pair of brake pads and they fit nicely in the caliber holes. But when putting back the wheel/rotor, there is not enough space between the pads for the rotor. And no, it doesn't have to do with not squeezing the piston enough...

Brief review and critique freeing caliper pistons

So I have several projects going on which means I try to group together similar jobs. Last week I rebuilt 2 sets of 34mm forks, installed brass bushings in two swing arms and changed steering head bearings in three bikes to tapered. I have a pair of two piston front calipers to rebuild and...

Adding fluid after brake line change

I recently picked up a '77 XS650 with the factory dual-disk option, and I just replaced the brake lines with braided stainless ones. Cleaned out the fittings and reservoir while everything was apart (didn't seem too bad actually), re-assembled and everything fits nicely. I added fluid to the...

06 GSXR 750 Fork Swap on my 75 -- Check my math?

Hi, All - I'm in the process of gathering all the parts and hardware to swap a 2006 GSXR 750 fork and brakes onto my 1975 XS650, while converting to dual disc and using the stock front wheel. I know that this swap has been done, and re-hashed, and there's a lot of great information and a few...

Hard to roll when cold. Brake pistion?

Hi all, I'm experiencing a phenomenon whereby my XS650H becomes hard to roll when it's cold. I took it for a short ride on Thursday and I could feel the resistance. I put it up on the center stand and spun the back wheel, which seemed to rotate freely, so I assume the drag is happening at the...

Rear brake pulls bike to the right

1978 Special, 12K miles Rear caliper rebuilt, bronze swingarm bushings installed, all greased and lubed. Rear wheel bearings good and the chain is aligned with proper slack. When I apply the rear brake alone it feels like the rear of the bike is pulling to the right. If I apply both front...
