Cleaning and rebuilding my XS2 carbs

Hi All, So I've been reading this site, the carb guide and watching as many videos as I can about carbs and the time has come to take my XS2's BS38's apart. I should point out that I have never taken apart a carb before... When I bought the bike it ran but when the petcocks were turned on it...

New Throttle Assembly, But Cable Too Short!

Just to make sure I'm not losing my mind, I wanted to get a second opinion. I almost done with my first ever build so I'm a green horn. I have a '78 xs650 with bs38 Mikuni Carbs. I purchased a new throttle assembly from TC Bros. with the vintage grips. Bars are not taller so the stock...

    1977D BS38 ready for rebuild?

Good morning friends, I've been holding off on tearing into my carbs on the suggestions I've read and heard about leaving well enough alone until it isn't. Also, I've been dialing in the prerequisite stuff such timing, fuel delivery, etc. 1) I was all ready to sync them, but I've found the...

Stella - 1977D survivor, back on the road.

I've been having a great time over the last two weeks as I become further acquainted with my 77D, mostly stock, Stella. After the first basic safety checks and oil change, etc. I put her quickly into her role as my daily ride. Most days are 5-10mi, but the last week has given me a few longer...

    Who Makes SS Carb Manifolds?

I'm wondering if any of y'all know if anybody out there makes stainless steel or aluminum billet carburetor manifolds/boots that fit Mikuni BS38 carbs? I know Counter Balance Cycles makes stainless steel ones for Mikuni's VM34 and TC Bros has an aluminum set for them as well, but I can't find...

    BS38 Float Bowl Issues

I recently rebuilt my engine and was having issues with one of the cylinders running rich at idle. I went through everything and finally found what the problem was. The float bowl. I swapped carbs from left to right and the rich condition followed the carb. I then swapped float bowls and the...

BS34 Jets I.D. where does this one go?

Alright, I'm no carb expert and I should have documented better. I took these bs34's apart from a 1982 to clean and too much time passed before reassembly. The pilot & main seem to be stock, and I believe I have installed them back in the right place, but I can't figure out what jet this middle...

    cross country carb question

Tax time is here and I was thinking about looking into some different carbs for the bike. Right now I have the stock Bs38's and they've been fine, no real complaints, I'm running Uni's as well. The only I will say is that anytime I crack the throttle open from idle, I get a breathy kind of gasp...

Hey guys, First post here... just recently picked up my (first) bike early December. Was marketed as an '81 XS650 Special II, but I pulled the carbs to clean them and noticed they are BS38s. The bike is in storage so I haven't pulled the engine numbers yet to get more specifics, but that's...
