    Who Makes SS Carb Manifolds?

I'm wondering if any of y'all know if anybody out there makes stainless steel or aluminum billet carburetor manifolds/boots that fit Mikuni BS38 carbs? I know Counter Balance Cycles makes stainless steel ones for Mikuni's VM34 and TC Bros has an aluminum set for them as well, but I can't find...

    '83 bs34 fuel leak

Some morning musings..... Turned the aftermarket petcock on and fuel pours out of the right carb. These are '83 carbs with the cable activated choke mounted on the left handlebar. I have replaced all the top and bottom Phillips head screws with Allen heads for ease of removal, especially...

Hi guys, total noob here. My first carb disassembly, I noticed some unexpected scoring on the bottom of the diaphragm slide. Bad air filtering? Should I consider replacing this part?

    Hanging idle BS34

My hanging idle appears to be due to air leak on the right hand side, out side throttle shaft seal ( carb cleaner and revs drop). I replaced all 4 when I rebuilt the carbs but this one appears to have failed? I am checking with Yamaha to see if they are still available, part number...

    Need help with carb tuning/jetting...

Trying to get my BS38's tuned. XS2 starts fine, idles nice and low, but as soon as you hit the throttle, it bogs down and dies..seems like a too rich condition and this is my assumption. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong. When I remove the carbs the throttle plate/valve is soaked in gas...

    1982 XS650 dies, no power

Hi guys, so my 82 is giving me a bit of trouble... So pretty much in the beginning I would be riding along and the bike would die, or I would be at a stop and the bike would "shut off" as I would say...but in reality the battery wouldn't be able to keep a charge, so I change the Regulator...

Carburetor Needle Identification marking - 34mm/81 special

Hi all, I just got to repairing my carbs and replaced most stuff OK until I came to the needle. The one coming out carried the Identification 5HX12. The new one out of the packet was marked 5Ix11. The original is worn so I don't want to go back but I can't find any discussion on what the...

Carburetor diaphragm good or bad? 82 Heritage Special

I need some help determining if one of my carburetor diaphragms is still good to go or trash. I'm thinking the latter but maybe not. I pulled off the cap and noticed that the diaphragm was not inserted correctly the last time I took the carbs apart. As a result one of the edges was flattened...

Is this discoloration around carb gasket a problem?

Hi everyone - once again I'd be grateful for your opinion on a technical question related to a 1981 Special I am evaluating for purchase. It runs well, 10k miles, and the owner says the carbs are clean. I noticed the carbs have an odd silver coloration near where they are attached to the...

Does anyone know if a guy can use only one fuel inlet for two mikuni bs38s since it appears both floats are connected? I'm having a hard time splitting one line into two and keeping good flow of fuel.

Bike runs good until it's warmed up, then terrible

The bike starts on 2 or 3 kicks when it's cold and on 1st kick once it's warmed up. It idles very well from a cold start, nice and lopey. after abt 5 minutes or so, just enough time to warm up, she begins to idle higher. Not anything crazy high, maybe like the throttle is just barely open...

    baby' fingers?

What kind of fingers do you need to attach gas lines on XS2 carbs on a stock bike??? Take off half of the bike? Took me almost one hour to connect the petcocks to the carbs!! I am glad I connected the 2 carbs together when I installed them! How do you spell "poorly thought/made"?? :banghead:

    Carb problems?

So my bike has been running perfect for a couple weeks. Almost decided to ride to the other side of town and more problems. I stop at the gas station and fill up and when I leave my bike feels like it wants to die but it doesn't. It drops about 200 rpms then goes back up while idling. I checked...

    benefits in 38's

Hey guys, have any of you swapped early year BS38 carburetors for a set from a later model? Are there any benefits in doing that? I image that further on in their manufacturing that they tweaked them a little and I have a set from a 1975 that I could put on my XS1B if i spent the time to...
