    Getting next to naked 'bars

Recent posts about suicide shifters triggered memories of the control layout of a former neighbor's Harley. He claimed he'd made the changes so the controls were as close as he could get to the controls on his car and that the similarity would give his response time an edge in emergencies. The...

    Footpeg Reuse

Anyone chop/reuse their stock footpeg brackets on a cafe build? I'd like to cut and weld the forward arm to the back to better position my pegs. I was thinking about using a set of r6 rearsets. Let's see some pics.

    Mid controls

Hey I just got a 83 xs650 hardtail and looking to switch from forward controls to mid controls. Does anyone have a good site I could purchase a set from? Also Is it pretty easy to take off the top end and get to the head gasket?

    First xs650!

What kind of throttle assembly do I need for my 72? I'm assuming the lever that's not the throttle is some kind of decompression but I'm not sure. Do I need a push and pull or a double pull or what?

    Part Compatibility for XS650's

Hello, New member here and a happy new owner of a 1972 XS2. This is my first motorcycle, and need some guidance with her. Something to keep in mind is it has an XS1 650 engine in it. I noticed when looking on eBay that the earlier models of parts are a little harder to find than other models...

Emgo grips failed before they were even installed

I purchased a pair of Emgo Gran Turismo "Tittie" grips off ebay. The left side installed fine but the inside section of rubber tore and rolled up the inside of the grip for the throttle tube. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there another brand besides Emgo that I should have purchased? This...

    Wrist savers?

Mikes used to sell grips like this in gray and black, I put them on "madness" but have put very few miles on that machine so far. So when I bought the connie a couple of weeks ago the stock grips were god awful for my old wrists. With a forward lean at low speed upper body weight is on...

    Cafe build

Hey everyone, I have a '75 xs650 with vm34s and pods, and this winter I'm starting to cafe it. I was curious as to what all of you cafe gurus are using for lengths of clutch and throttle cable, and the electrical wires of the controls. P.S. I'll be putting 7/8" diameter 27.5" wide drag...

    RH throttle cable

I can't find a RH throttle cable for my '72 XS2. Mike's has the lefthand but not the right. What's the difference? Can I use two LH cables as the old one ain't bad? The RH's missing. I anticipate lower bars on it, if that helps, as I suspect the difference is in length. Thanks.

    clip-on handlebars

So I'm thinking about putting some clip-ons on my '75 xs650. For those of you that have done it: Using the stock controls, did you use the stock wiring to the controls, stock throttle cable (mikuni vm34s), stock brake lines, etc (length I guess is what I'm concerned about)? What size...

Want new bars for my '79

I have a '79 special with the hump seat and swept back bars ala cruzer style(this is not my bike btw). I don't like riding a bike with that riding position. I want a more standard layout. Any suggestions for stock or aftermarket bars? What years would work? No clip on or lay down/cafe style...

My bike has straight bars at the minute but I wanted to see if I can now live with the wide originals. I think they look cool. :bike: But when I got them down I found that both bar ends were plugged with what looks like weld. I wanted to swap out the straight bars and keep the screw in bar...
