Build Thread - 83 xs650 HS -> minimal street tracker.

Hey Everyone. I am pleased to start my official build thread. The object of my build is simplicity. Inspired by a few bikes i've seen around the net and my general aesthetic I am stripping it down to essentials, modernizing where I can and keeping it clean. Heres how she started. 83...

1981 xs650 newbie looking for all pointers!

hey all! so i just purchased a 1981 xs650. the bike has 13000 miles on it and the engine has not been started in over 15 years so as you can imagine it doesn't make a sound. my end goal in all this is to make the bike have a frisco style with a few other styling queues from my favorite parts...

    Tank fitment

I'm restoring/building a xs 650. right now I'm stuck on getting a gas tank. I started with a 1980 frame, but don't like the 80's gas tank. I already powder coated the frame and don't want to refab the tank mounts right now. My question is what 70's model tanks will fit on a 1980 frame?

    Front hub in rear?

I really want to use my stock 18" rear wheel, but would like to eliminate the drum brake. I would like to lace in a hub from a front wheel and utilize the front brake rotor and caliper... Will the front hub and axle hold up to use on the rear? Anyone ever lace this set up?? If it would...

    xs bobber. . . . . . original???

Traded a 650 for some custom painted tins and this is what I started. Not too sure if some of my ideas are really too original, but I can't really stay away from the "old skill" look This is what I got for to sets of tins(tank n fender) 11/12 A lil chop A lil Polish A fender I found chopped...

What do I do to cover speedometer drive hole ?

Hi all, I am planning on re-lacing a front spoked hub (19") from what I believe was a 72' 650 special to an 18" rim. Both rims are the same type, 185B. The main question I have is how do I omit the speedometer drive and cover the gaping hole where it once was? Thanks

    21 in rim advice

I am doing a 21 inch rim conversion to my existing hub, and have found that older dirt bike wheels to be the easiest option. Though most of the widths were around 1.60, so I was wondering what would be about the widest tire capable of going on a rim of that width? Also, could someone tell me...

    Drag race times

Has anyone taken thier bikes down a drag strip wth times to post? I am looking for comparisons on what the bikes are capable of. I ran mine on the 1/8 a few times with the stock motor. I'm gonna build a "brat" style bike with monster craftsman brat set up. Is there anyone using a VI or the new monster set up with foot controls in the stock location and low clip on bars? If so, are you comfortable being cramped up like that. This is just gonna be a joy ride bike. A little...

    1979 "Keep It Simple" build

After months of working on other projects and being distracted by lots of things that life has thrown at me, it is finally time to begin my build! My basic plan of attack is to keep it as simple as possible while drawing a lot of my inspiration from trackers and some cafe styling. I plan to...

    Other wheels for the XS?

For my SOHC4 Hondas, there are/were several period aftermarket wheel options available, including Lester's , Henry Abe, Morris and more. Some people relace the GL1000 wheels to their hubs so they can have lightweight, shouldered rims, much like what came on some XS's or the Akront wheels...

XS650E or XS650SF for visual impact brat kit?

I have two XS that I can choose from to use. A 78'XS650E or a 79'XS650SF. the SF has a bend in the frame on the left side tube coming up the side near the regulator, I think this is normal. And the E does not have this bend. So, does this matter when installing the visual impact brat kit? I put...
