Left cylinder running hotter than the other side

Okay, so a bit of back ground on this before i start. I have rebuilt this TX650 motor, inside and out with .25 over pistons, new wiring with pamco and brand new VM34's mikuni carbs. Now, i've had it running a few times and i immediatly noticed that the left exhaust pipe is hotter than the...

    Perfect, but then no spark

Everything was perfect and then one morning, I get 200 yards from the driveway and the engine dies. There is gas and air but no spark. What is it? CDI? It's not the kickstand switch. I tried to bump start it, but the engine just turns over until I come to a stop.

    Head gaskets

So It looks like my bike is leaking oil from cam chain channel into left cylinder. I see that sealer on gasket helps to stop this. My question is any one used the MLS head gaskets? They seem to have a nice rib around cam chain opening which seems like it would help. And does having head and...

Hey guys, I was riding my XS home from school, when it suddenly just lost all power and throttle. As soon as I got to the side of the road and stopped, the engine died and I have been unable to get it to start since. Does anyone have any idea what may be causing this and what I should do...

Extra washer in "shifter" zip-loc found during rebuild?

Hi guys, Does this dang washer seem like it belongs anywhere in the shifter assembly on the clutch side. It doesn't seem to fit anything in the shift assembly group. Putting the engine back together... hate to have extra parts. The shifter claw spring placed nearby for comparison. It is steal...

    78mm pistons

Hey all, I've been around for a bit, but haven't posted a whole lot. I've done some business with quite a few members. This is my first thread. So to get down to it, I bought a set of 78mm cast pistons out of Japan, on eBay. When I took them to the machine shop I'm using, the machinist...

    New Cam Chain Won't fit

I'm putting the top end back together in my first engine rebuild attempt. Ordered new cam chain but it is one link too short. The engine is a '74 XS650 from the US and has a 447 on the block. I understand that there are two cam chains for this model depending on where in the world the bike was...

Is it ok to discuss GR650 motor mods here?

It's a close cousin and mentioned elsewhere on site... not much on Suz forums about it. Pulled motor yesterday- yes you can do it solo- it's only about 125 lbs. Compact and light without kick start but ya gotta run a battery. Has unusual "secondary" fuel injection tube in intakes. I have...

    Crankcase cover install

Hello everyone. So I go to do the dry fit before I put the gasket on my crankcase cover and the thing won't go on the engine. The left side of the cover (kick start side) goes on but the right side with the tach gear just won't. I figure it has something to do with lining up the gears but it...

Plug chop, too lean I think?

Hey All, '79 Special II, all stock engine. Earlier this year I de-restricted my exhaust a bit (punched 1/2" hole in the stock baffle) and have really enjoyed the improved "Oomph" in the motor...and the sound is perfect for me. However, the other day I was thinking that perhaps I...
