I had my top end blasted and want to paint my barrels with vht satin black paint. It says to paint with 2 light coats ten minutes apart the a medium coat of paint. Any comment on this?
Everyone says it needs to be cured. My engine is apart Ive considered firing up the double barrel stove in the...
Rattle can! and it turned out beautiful. Spare tank, that had a pin hole about halfway up the top. Brazed it. Used JB weld as filler. I did leave some small dents, and decided to make have a little patina along with them. It was my first paint jobbie, and a fun project.
50 bucks worth...
I am getting ready to send my frame to powedercoat, I have a 77 model, I believe I saw a sticker in front of the neck.
So the question is, if it is a VIN sticker, is there a process to remove it and put it back on? or is the VIN stamped on there?
Thanks,
I have very limited experience with SEM paint, and I can tell you that is amazing stuff.
Wondering if anyone has tried re-newing an entire stock seat cover with it.
Couple links in case you've never heard of it:

I've been debating going the cheap route and using yellow Plastidip on my fiberglass tank and seat cowl. Thoughts? One issue I think would be not being able to put graphics over it.
Need advice on how to refinish my frame - paint or powder coat?
I'm nearing the end of the teardown phase of my 1974 650 and am getting ready to do the frame. Engine is out, everything if off of the frame and I'm planning to send it out to the sandblaster. After the sandblasting, should I...
So I have this crazy idea about changing the colors of the Yamaha on my side cover. The big ones. It started with a chip out of the Y, and after finding out what I thought was paint wasn't, I took a dremel to the letters and dug it all out. Most people say hand paint them back, I want white...
Hey everybody,
I finally grew a pair and went out and bought the can of paint stripper, realising that no amount of polishing was going to budge 30 year old clear coat aged on to the engine's side covers. Worked a treat, came off like before my eyes. So far I have spent an hour or so working...
Got a question for the general population. I've been a member for a while now, mostly just lurking and learning, super site with knowledgeable people. I'm well into my build now, '82 Special transformed to a bobber, PMA, Pamco, re-phase, etc. I recently bought a TCBros fake oil tank kit. The...
Hello all,
I am currently heading towards mounting a xs 750/850 standard tank on my xs650 (don't remember which standard model one it was) that has pretty nice factory paint job. The paint is black with silver panels towards the front with yellow YAMAHA decals. The silver panel on one side...
I'm a new member. Just got my second bike, which is also my first XS650. I'm sure I will get another one once I have become more familiar with working on bikes (specifically the XS's). I've already had tons of great tips and wisdom come from some of you guys on here and for that I am extremely...
I cant remember who it was that you could send your tins to and hed paint them and send them back. He did wild paint jobs. He did layers i think he was building a black a green bike. ring any bells? thanks for the help.
I can do many things myself except for paint and body work. I would like to have my tank and side covers repainted in a two tone color scheme. I'm not looking at ghost flames, scallops, or any kind of fancy graphics. On average, what would the cost of material, labor, etc. should I budget for...
Haven't read up on this too much. Just picked up 2 cans of spray max 2K high gloss clear. Can I use this on a bare metal frame? Will it stick and did anyone use it?
