He sends me this;
Still needs the white stripes, but day-am that looks nice.
Next weekend marks the 3rd slimey crud run that has passed with the parts in his shop. Oh well, I don't have the bike ready either.
i have an XS thats engine currently has black paint on it from the previous owner. I don't know what color was used (i think its flat black) or the brand
I have gone through the 9 pages in the "paint" section of the forum and everyone seems to be painting their engines with black/gloss black...
Hey guys, I'm trying to look for a way to paint a design on my tank, I was thinking about drawing something and then getting a decal then a coat to cover it. But I was thinking that I wouldn't like the ridges as much. I stumbled upon a helmet
would a stencil be ok for a work such as this...
Well I forgot to mask to mask off top of my steering stem on my frame before I got it powder coated and now need to remove said powder coating. What would be the best way to get the powder coat removed?
Thought the powdercoaters here may enjoy this.
The author claims that the toners used in laser printing are the same as the powders used in powdercoating, and that laser printer images can be transferred to powdercoat surfaces using heat and pressure. Food for thought...
anybody had any experience with the cheaper powder coating kits $90-150 range... are they just a toy?or do they work.any idea of what thickness the coating would be etc,in other words are they a waste of money or worth it
found 1 thread on removal of powdercoating.said to carefully use a propane torch to remove the coating and then sand(in big letters, not garnet walnut etc???) blast any patchs left.before i get the torch out and wreck something, anybody tried this or got a different method that doesnt take forever...
Rustoleum High Heat Ultra
(Engine pics below - 1982 Yamaha XJ650J engine I painted with this stuff) I applied this using a small Harbor Freight airbrush kit that we had here for another project (the whole kit was like $70 bucks and that included a small air compressor, it's worked fine for...
I used Duplicolor's "etching primer" and their "wheel coating" to refurbish a set of 1982 Yamaha XJ650J wheels (my wife's project bike). It worked out SO well that I wanted to share the experience.
First off, I had to learn about the difference between laquers and enamels. Laquers cure in a...
Hi all,
I'm working on a build from a 1979 XS650, and I'm currently working on polishing all the surfaces up. I've recently hit a speed bump, though.
On the right side crankcase cover, there seems to be some sort of plating on the surface. At first I thought the difference in surfaces...
Was there ever a year when an xs650 came stock with blackened engine case? I couldn't seem to find any pics of one if there ever was, and I'm looking at one online and owner says it's all stock. ?
Hey folks - as a brief introduction I've been getting up to speed on the xs650 and learning about the bike and its pros and cons for a couple of months now.
Well, if anything I'm only more convinced now that i need to try my hand at a first build, and I have a reasonably informed...
I have a 77 in the Maxi Maroon color and I was kicking around the idea of painting it in a color that was available in Europe or elsewhere but not here in the states. I've a buddy who bought one the same color as mine and he also has a blue set of tins. I am looking for pictures of 77s sold in...
I am looking for someone to do knee dents and paint on my 81 tank that is in near perfect condition. If anyone does this type of work or can recommend someone please let me know.
Thanks
sorry not best pick of tank
So my frame is painted in what I'm guessing (probably wrong) is the factory paint. It's a rough texture. I've seen most of the rebuilds on here sandblasted and repainted nice and smooth. That's not my thing. I'd like to keep that rough look. On the 2014 calendar the El Chingon is painted the...
Imm thinking of having the frame and wheels media blasted and those and a tank powder coated.
Anyone know of or better still used a company in the Northern Va area that does good work at great prices?
I don't want to travel more than 45 mins from Alexandria Va area.
Finished up my build last year and once it was done I had some plans on changing things that I am working on now, however im kinda second guessing myself so wanted to see what you guys think.
Here is what it looked like last year. Didnt have a chance to paint it before I left.
Bought a...
Hello all,
Looking at using some of the Spraymax 2K for painting in the future and would like a recommendation for a respirator suitable for use with that product. Something locally obtainable, hopefully, from Sears, Home Depot, Lowes, etc.
Thanks
