Clutch does not disengage, freshly rebuilt engine

I just finished putting the whole bike back together but I can not seem to get the clutch adjusted properly. I can not find a sticky or anything on how to properly adjust a clutch, and my Clymers manual is lacking... The cable is hard to pull, but I get no clutch release at all. Any advice?

    Mulholland interpart? (air shock rebuilding)

Hello all, my bike has Mulholland Interpart Force 1 shocks, and i'm thinking about rebuilding them. When I googled the name however, I didn't get very many results. Does Mulholland Interpart exist anymore? Can I get a rebuild kit for these shocks? Can I rebuild them without having a "kit" to do...

    Nervous about brakes...

My rear brake seems fine although I do plan on looking at it a bit closer I do not want it to go out on me. It is my front brake that I worry about. The pain is gone on the fender underneath one of the brake lines. So for the time being I have no front brake. I am new to brake work other...

First start, running poorly; need advice

Hey all, I acquired an 82 Special to build into a custom. Old owner had it sitting for 2 summers unused but said it ran great before that. Carbs were gummed up when I got it; wouldn't start. I put new mufflers on it, Emgo turn out style, very free flowing compare to original; almost...

    Rebuild or Used motor?

The past few days I've spent tearing apart the motor for my bike. I discovered that I dropped a valve at some point and destroyed my piston, and heads. My question is which is the better option. Do I rebuild what I have, or buy a used motor? I am somewhat tight on money, not terribly, but...

    My First Project

Just picked up my 1980 XS 650 yesterday. It's got about 12,500 miles on it. It has been sitting in my dads barn for about 4 years. I have almost all the parts except the air boxes. The motor is seized up so my goal first off is to figure out what I need as far as that is concerned. The...

Bike "burps" after you turn it off...What is that about?

So I picked up an 83 XS that I am redoing (previously bobbed a 77) into a cafe. It was evident that the PO was trying to make a cool bike with $0.00 and it showed. Black primer on EVERYTHING and the bike did not run. Next day I got it started and took it for a little spin. Smooth through all...

Rebuilding a motor with 20K miles

Hey everyone, I've been in France for 4 months for work, but I'm home in a little under 2 months so I've started thinking about all the fun things I want to do to my bike. It is a 1980 XS650, btw. Anyways, I rode it around before I left and it runs great except for aluminum bits in the...

    Engine Rephase Rebuild Thread

So, I am sure a couple of you have been thinking (or taken part in) about a rephase. I have decided, after all the questions and answers on this thread to jump in. My goal is to be able to have a smoother running cruiser. Something that will take me past my current 4.5k vibratory limit. I just...

Does this rephase plan sound too crazy?

So, I have rebuilt the motor and driven it prob about 2k miles. It was my first bike build and first bike ever really ridden. I must say, it's been a blast and tons of fun. With all of these good times came one repeating problem: vibration. I have done a bunch of things to make this beast ride...

Rewiring this 83 XS650 simplified, is there still the TCI?

I see that the simplified wiring diagrams on the "some wiring diagrams" (5th one down the page)page, particularly the 81 XS simplified one that looks oh so simple, appears to be without the TCI.. It has the coil, ignitor unit, pickup coil, but I do not see that it has that little black box under...

Getting Ready to Re-assemble My Top End - LOTS of Questions

Here's the story - I bought this '81 XS650H as a pile of parts, it's got 9k on it, and was dissembled and left in a guys garage for several months. He took apart the top end because it was leaking oil, beyond that I know nothing about how the motor ran. I've since: Bought the Clymer...
