First ever motorcycle and first restoration

I found a 1975 model "not running" for $400. I have never owned a motorcycle and my riding experience is 15 minutes about 25 years ago. I have always wanted to rebuild one and the opportunity presented itself. I look forward to the process and educating myself here.

A few questions about wiring my bike, searched and didn't find definite answers.

Trying to familiarize myself before I dive in and start wiring it up. I'm trying to get the charging circuit done. I pulled off the old wiring harness because it was shot, but I still have it and cut off the ends that I think I can use. The first pic on the left are the wires coming out...

    Well Hell Reresto'd

You may recall that early last June a buddy of mine dropped the 77' D resto in a too tight curve. The last couple of months have been spent bringing her back to life. As you can see, we've strayed a bit further from the stock appearance and managed to do a few things that I'd been wanting to...

    Paint, enamel or powdercoat?

I want to refinish my chainguard. I have some paint left over from the gas tank and side covers. That way I save money. I want to know if painted chain guards hold up to the rigors of riding or should I have the chain guard enameled or powdercoated. The bike is not being restored to factory new.

    Ignition swap outs.

Greetings everyone. I don't know if any remember the xs650 I was restoring in some of my earlier posts. Someone suggested that i switch out the nylon screws on my stator. Which I did and it no longer shorts out. My last issue would be the ignition. The motor is a 78 and the frame and wiring...
