speedo drive

happened today. installed a new cable yesterday, cuz the old one was shot. heard some squeaking at speed, that I thought might be something rubbing the tire, then a squeal, then this baby. Never seen the inside of that before. Anybody have any tips? I can't separate the cable from the...

These were in the bag where I was keeping my speedo drive. Are these a part of the assembly of the drive or front wheel? Or did I just mix them up? Where do they go?!? You can read my full build thread HERE.
