    The "A" Factor

Just another cabin fever diversion. The scenario is simple. You're emerging from a mild cruise toodle in a metro area, to the open highway. Or, you're wanting to pass around a slow truck. And, stay in 5th gear. What kind of acceleration can be expected when throttling up from about 45mph to...

How do i get a rench on head bolt #11

Im re-torquing my engine head with the motor still in the frame and i cant get a damn wrench on bolt #11. Does anyone know a way to make this work? I wanted to torque it to spec with a torque wrench but im not so sure i can get an accurate reading on it given the location.

    Winnipeg Intro

Hello! New to the group. Live in Winnipeg. Owner of a 1979 x400F and 1978 xs650 Special. My plan is to chop and chip away at the 650 this winter. That said I have a question (one of many to come I'm sure) The Bike (650) currently has mag wheels (both front and rear, both disk.) I'm looking...

    Torque

Hi, I am rebuilding my engine and cannot find the torque required for tightening up the rocker head bolts. (Ie the 8 and 4 bolts on the top of the engine). Hope you see what I mean. Pls to hear and thank you.

did i use the wrong torque wrench?

i went to loan my torque wrench to a friend and he said he needed a inch lb torque wrench and not my foot lb torque wrench. this lead me to think that the reason why my engine leaks from a few spots is that maybe all the bolts are over torqued. so i have purchased a new gasket kit to install but...

Need to Re-torque Bottom End Bolts?

I'm slowly re-assembling my top-side. While I've still got the engine out of my bike, is there a need to re-torque bolts, nuts on the crankcase or bottom end? Or just leave them alone since I've not disturbed the lower case? Thanks.

Oil leak on Kick starter side

Have a small oil leak on the Kick starter side of the bike that seems to come out when I am riding. If I let the thing sit on the stand in the shop nothing. Since it's a little hard to hang over the side of the bike while riding to try and track the leak down I thought I'd check the torque on...

    head studs / nuts

I've tried searching this for my son, but he is rebuilding an XS400 and the head studs/bolts have acorn nuts instead of regular nuts. We torqued the head to spec and per the pattern, but I'm thinking the acorn nuts bottomed out on themselves giving a false torque reading. My reason for...

    Torque values

One weak point of all my XS650 manuals is that the torque values are placed randomly throughout the book. I always have a heck of a time finding a particular torque spec. Why can't they have a single page or two that lists all important torque specs? Not just engine, but things like fork caps...
