    Max Front Wheel Size

Whats the max front wheel size that could be used on a stock xs650? Are there any companies out there that make something larger than a 21" that will fit an xs hub? Hoping to do 23" but wasnt sure how practical it is with current available options on the market. Thanks!

WTB front spoke wheel with a drum brake ...

.... looking for a front 16X3 - 16X4 rim and also a 18X or 19X whatever you have rim. Building a chopper and acquiring parts that don't match. Figured I'd use these wheels with whatever forks I decide to use. Only thing I need to worry about is the width and axle size. Doing this off the top o...

    1972 XS2 front brake switch

Anyone have a picture the can send me of how the front brake switch hooks up to the master cylinder / brake lever on a 1972 XS2? Also am I correct in thinking that the switch inside the decompression lever is the starter motor switch? Thanks Dave

Convince me, why 19" rear wheel.

Hi folks, First, thank you all for the warm welcome. Now, I am going to be looking for a Tracker style build. I am not looking for a Kenny Roberts tribute bike (would not mind owning one) but I doubt I will be on any 1/2 mile dirt tracks. So with the tire combinations available that are cost...

Need info on mag to spoke conversion please!!

I have a 1981 xs650 special that I am working on chopping up and I just ordered a set of aluminum 1975 xs650 19" front and 18" rear for my build. Does all the guts and wheel hub & brakes from the rear change over from the mag to the spoke or will I have to find parts for that too? If so is there...

Harley Wheel on a Metric frame

Can Harley wheels be used on a metric frame ? I want to use 16" on both front and back for that Fat Tire brat bike look. I also prefer spoke over mag wheels. Another question is, Can a drum brake hub be laced on a Harley rim ?, for that old school look. Last question, is there a rear sprocket...

Front Wheel Assembly - HHB delete, new build from parts

I'm trying to put together a bike from some crates of parts. 1981 HS, but using a spoked wheel from another year. I'm using a HHB speedo delete. Do I still need an oil seal (93105-45017-00), clutch retainer (341-25846-00-00), clutch meter (341-25149-00-00)? Also, nobody seems to have the...

Getting ready to buy tires, Looking at avon roadriders or michelin pilot activ. Looking at the front michelin center groove and wondering if it will want to follow grooves in pavemant? Anybody have that problem with them? Other tires I should look at? I am looking at 100/90-19 front and 4.00-18...

    Michelin Pilot Activ sizing?

Lets say one has read up on the OM, Tech section info, and Michelin's site, but as a novice still may be looking for a little expert assurance... Would the following Micheling Pilot Activ combo pair up correctly on a stock pair of tube type Takasago rims? F: Rim, 19x1.85 > Tire, 110/90 19"...

Issues with a 19 rear and 18 front?

As the title says, is there any issues running a bigger wheel in the back than in the front? I see most bikes have the same size or the front one is one or two inches larger than the rear. I ask because that's what I have and if I'm able to use I will. Rear is a 19 x 2.15 and the front is an 18...

    Powder Coat

I am considering having my spoked wheels powder coated. I plan on everything being coated one color, spokes, rim and hubs. My local powder coating guy told me I still have to disassemble everything. Does this sound right? Can't he just tape off the inner hub brake surface and where the sprocket...

    spoke vs mag

I see most people running spoked wheels, mine came with mags. Are the spokes a better option or just use them because of the looks?

    1981 XS650H wheels/tires tube/tubeless

According to Clymer, the XS650H takes an inner tube and the SH takes tubeless tires. Both of the tires on my XS650H say tubeless on the sidewall but they are on the spoke wheels. Is it possible that there is a tube in there even though the tires say tubeless on them, or is it possible that...

New alternative tyre for "Street Trackers"

Hi all tracker/scrambler fans! I have always thought Heidenau K34 sort of had the right flattrack type thread, while still being an approved street tyre. Until recently, they widest available sizes were 3.50-18 and 4.00-19. I guess this could work well when using a 19" front wheel in the...

    Rear axle and adjusters

When pulling my 1980 apart for rebuild I noticed that the axle adjuster on right side had no "notch" for chain adjustment. The nut looks like is put on with pipe wrench!!! My question is, not sure if axle adjuster is on wrong side or if it is from different bike. looking at pictures on here...

Lacing mikes 2.5x18 rims to stock hubs w ss spokes

Did this today, I kinda made a spoke hole "straightener" out of an old masonry impact bit with a Makita drill, grinder and dremel cut off wheel. It let me aim the hole to the matching hole in the hub and recut the the nipple seat for a more square to the hole connection. By grinding the cutting...

    21" rim after sandblasting

Hey guys, I'm about to build a 21" wheel for my xs, and just got the rim back from sandblasting. It came from a xt550 and was in kinda rough shape on the inside of the rim. The rust is gonna but the inside is really pitted. Fairly certain it will be fine to use but I wanted to get some other...

Omar's 19" wheel conversion kit and swing arm

I installed Omar's rear 19" Conversion kit per instructions. When I tighten spindle (axle) it binds the wheel and it will not spin. The spindle has a split lock nut for a Cotter pin so do I just back off nut until loose? I've rechecked assembly several times but result is the same. Thoughts? Oh...
