1970 XS1 Choke Lever wont stay

Started diving into my carbs today (1970 XS1 BS38) and the choke lever on the left carb will not stay in the "on" postion. It just slides back to the starting spot. I'm pretty sure somethings not set up right but I cant figure it out. What am I missing? Thanks in advance

Yes, you've got the connection points at the choke plunger reversed. The lever should go in the lower slot, the bracket on the carb into the upper slot.
 
Here's a rather ratty carb (pic from eBay) showing the choke plunger. There's no choke lever installed but the bracket running through the body is in the correct upper slot on the plunger rod .....

wow that is ratty lol. Got it! Just went out and swaped it around and it works great now. Now will take lots of pics and do a rebuild
