Hello I have been lurking for awhile and this is my first post.I'm restoring a 1970 XS1 back to original for the most part and have tons of questions but I'll start w/one. What 2 stage Candy Green have any of you used?Doesnt need to be exact, maybe even a little more modern color. Also mine only has 1 pinstripe as some have 2. I"m guessing early/late build. Mine is earlyThanks 018.jpg 20210112_104404.jpg

    Looks nice.
One pinstripe is correct for the 1970 XS1.

If that is original paint, I would trade you paint ready tin (not already painted) for it, pay for the shipping and add something to boot!
Please don't mess with that original paint!

PS the green from House of Kolor does a great job.
These are all painted with HOK

In other markets XS1F's were sold with green paint that has 2 pin stripes.

Wow, that is quite the collection! I was thinking ahead to the '71 and one big job will be to paint the gas tank. Dad had the original tank professionally sealed (lots of pinholes), but it is in great shape now. I have used HOK paint before and was really surprised with the results, but have no idea how to paint the white stripes. Do you paint it white first, apply decals/pattern, then put on the yellow? If so, any recommendations for the decals? Any other tips or tricks?

Factory is metallic white, mask off stripes then spray the candy color. I had painters do the candy then then mask and spray on stripes. followed by clear coat.

    Nice!!!

I flirted briefly with the idea of selling the FJ and getting a 'Vette, but the numbers just didn't work. I'll just make your's my screen-saver and keep a towel and a pack of cigarettes handy...:love::love::geek::geek::geek:

The HOK looks really good and I can get this in the UK, do you know the colour code?

Sorry Cribby I don't but it was applied over fine silver metallic base, painter had me there while spraying to say when the green was "deep" enough. I matched to factory green from the bottom of the headlight shell. The white is not a PURE white it has a slight beige green tint, we found pure white was just to harsh contrasty with the green.

.... three stage candy green.... primer.. then the white... then the green... followed with clear coat.... it's a pain 6 inches below the forth belt loop.... but well worth the effort.

I agree with gggGary. Maybe its worth more in the future if you keep the original green paint?
