I recently purchased a 1973 TX650 and wish to fit a XS1/XS2 gas cap to the gas tank. Has anyone done this and if so, what modifications were made? Besides removing the two metal fingers/strips running south from the gas tank opening, what other changes were made? Please provide pics if possible.

Also, from the attached pictures of my tank, what badges were attached to this model - oval XS2 black/chrome badge or rectangular YAMAHA chrome letters badges?

Thanks, Chris

These badges were a one, two year special, found on the 73TX650 and 73-74 TX750
Here's a close up of the 70-72 latch.

Those latch frames are a bit on the fragile side, made of zamak?

Really check the rear seam on that tank before paint. All the 73 tanks that had badges were subject of a replacement campaign by Yamaha due to bad rear seams. Hate to have fuel leaks cause a new paint job to bubble and fail.
