I was offered one at a good price..anyone know much about them? Whats the difference between it and a XS? Parts available? should i snag it or is it the same thing as my 77' xs 650 that is a big project?

-no problems-its an xs model '73(?)

XS1, XS1B, XS2, TX650, TX650A, XS650B,....

its basically an xs 650 vertually every thing is interchangable,it may have 22mm small ends and a slightly differant head and barrels but the basics are all the same, I have a 72 xs1 with a later engine bolted in,xs750 forks, late swing arm with cast wheels,as inxs says they ran xs1 xs2 tx650 then xs650,but apart from a few differances its all the same,if I was offered one at a good price I would be jumping at it!!!

As said above, most people call any Yamaha 650 twin from 1970 to 1983 an XS650 to keep it easy. You'll notice some pf the earlier models say XS 650 on the side covers. This site is all about all the yamaha 650 twins which are technically called the following:

1970 - XS1
1971 - XS1B
1972 - XS2
1973 - TX650
1974 - TX650A
1975 - XS650B
1976 - XS650C
1977 - XS650D
1978 - XS650E
1978 - XS650SE
1979 - XS650F
1979 - XS650SF
1979 - XS650-2F
1980 - XS650G
1980 - XS650SG
1981 - XS650H
1981 - XS650SH
1982 - XS650SJ
1983 - XS650SK

The "S" means it a special.

It's like the Yamaha Maxim's of the early 80's. A lot of people know them as the maxim 550, 650, or 750 because that's what the side covers say, but they are technically the XJ550, XJ650, and XJ750. So think of the "XS 650" label like the "Maxim" label and think of the labels in the list above like the technical label (like XJ550). Another way to put it is: Maxim is to XJ550 as XS 650 is to XS650SE. There are some differences among the years as things evolved but most things will swap or work across the years. Hope that helps!

we just got a 74 tx 750 really cheap, maybe gonna do a cafe racer or somethink like that still ,will post pic when we start the project:D

ive never owned a TX model bike, but ive heard they (yamaha) had issues with them.
something to do with the cam chain or bearings or something.
the TX bikes started getting a bad reputation!
even after yamaha corrected the problems, people didnt trust the TX model bikes, thats why they went back to the XS designation for 1975.

i used to own a 1974 TX500 that bike was a twin cyl. with 4 valves per cyl.
it was a great bike. im not sure if the TX650 shared this similarity or if it was only the TX500.
im sure if you wanted to google it you could find out all about it

Does this resemble the 74 tx500 motor? Trying to ID it.
