Hey all,

Finally getting around to starting on my 79 650.

I bought this thing as you see it and finally have the bike lift and space dedicated to getting it together. Going to be reading my Haynes and the boards to figure out what order to do all this in and what I can omit.

Hello:
Looks like you have 1980 and up BS34 carbs in the box.
Not too much left there connected together, eh?
Good way to learn all about your creation.

Looks like mine! I had FIVE boxes and my engine was in bits too!!

Good luck, it will be needed, but oh so worth it when you finally go for a spin around the block!

Yup. My other XS is an 80. These 34s are roached so I used the 79s Mikunis on the 80. I expect to learn a lot. Really helps that I have a bike that's (mostly) all together for reference.

Hi xonix,
first, before you spend any more time, money and effort, make sure you can get the bike titled.
Then check the headraces and swap them out for tapered rollers if they ain't been done yet.
And ditto on swapping the stock plastic swingarm bushings for bronze ones.
Next check the date stamps on the tires. If they are over 5 years old get new tires. Even if the old ones look perfect they will be as hard as wood.
Then clean and check every last little part in the pile.
That's before you start.
Repaint or just reassemble?
Back to stock or modify?
Let us know, eh?
[edit] OK, I just read the post's title. gonna be a Bratbuild. [endedit]

Thanks for the tips!
I will add these items to my list.

Always nice when someone shows you where to start digging before you climb headfirst down the rabbit hole. :)

I will likely mock this thing up to figure out what is needed and what can be cut/shaved. Then do a blast and paint or powder.

Hey all,

I've been rebuilding my carbs and picked up these new carb holder boots.

48-1480.jpg

They don't come with the metal jackets/covers that my stock holders have.

Do you need these? Is there a place to buy them in the US if yours are mangled? Mine are in kinda shitty condition.

Thanks!
