It just came to my attention that 1980+ has a wider tail and won't be compatible with my '79. Really sorry about that.

Classic, that backrest and carrier is adjustable a lot of different ways, including width. For its rear hole it needs a hole where the 80+ grab bar fastens, but the distance it needs from shock mount to rear hole is adjustable too. I have that carrier w/o the back rest on my 81. To make it narrower loosen the Phillips' and squeeze.... Sorry about your wreck, btw. Get well soon.
