Absolutely, and plenty of room to stay at our place on the southern end of the Ambassador Bridge!

    WHO indeed....?

Perhaps we can arrange for a horrendous thunderstorm - or even a tornado - when you are riding over here Greg - and you can also do it at night!

Yeah...that would be waaaay better than a riding on a bright sunny day in mid-June! :lmao:

That's something you may want to check deeper into.
I've traveled to Canada dozens of times for work. Flying and driving. One thing I always get asked going into Canada is if anything I'm bringing in is going to be sold or remain there. Sometimes crossing the border is a piece of cake and other times a royal pain, even with the correct paper work. Just depends on the Immigration Officer and the mood they are in.

I mentioned to Mrs. Lakeview about my nascent plan to go there Friday and get a good spot for the swap meet and camp in the van for two nights. She thought that was really funny.

By far the worst experience I had was 20 some years ago. I was on vacation riding my BMW RT. I had ridden up the west side of Lake Michigan and then across the UP. Decided to cross into Canada at St.Saint Marie and ride down the east side of Lake Huron. Pulled into the immigration checkpoint. Guy at the window asked what I was doing and where was I going. Told him I was on vacation and going to ride around Lake Huron. Things went down hill fast. He said go to stall 5 and wait for the officers. 5 guys were waiting for me. Officer in charge had me remove my bags and open up the fairing compartments. While he interrogated me the other 4 proceeded to dump everything in my bags on the ground and remove everything from the fairing and dump that stuff on the ground. The officer questioning me kept asking me where I kept my guns and knifes. As he was searching my billfold I pointed out to him I had a Gold and a Platinum credit card. I didn't need to sleep in places where I needed a gun. A minuet later he handed me back my billfold, said something to his guys in French and they all walked away. There I was with almost all my stuff scattered on the ground. They forgot to have me open my seat. No guns or knifes under there, but there were tools.
I never crossed into Canada on my bike there again. When I would ride around Superior I would go through Minnesota to get in.

DUI 14yrs ago means possible denial at the border so I don't even bother trying anymore. Do miss the trips to hang out in Grand Bend though.

Have read that for a fee ($200 last I saw) you can apply for some kind of pass. But even if the folks in Ottawa say you are good, no trouble since, blah blah blah, it's still up to the discretion of the border guard to deny entry.
Oh well, if that's how they want to be I'll just keep my money on this side of the river.

That's what the girls at the "Canadian Ballet" said too! When my brother-in-law was still alive him and I made quite a few trips to Sarnia to meet my other brother-in-law and help the dancin' girls pay their bills.

  15. If you are in Southern Ontario this is a great annual event. This year our beloved XS650 is the featured motorcycle celebrating 50 year anniversary. The event is held in Paris, Ontario on June 19 -21. I will be there on Friday. https://www.cvmg.ca/ParisRally

BTW - I went to the Toronto show yesterday and left after 2 hours. Too many crap vendors and stuff not related to motorcycles, too many people but the live motorcycle jumps were exciting - they almost were touching the ceiling.

    cheers
    -Bob

We now have three threads on this. I think it would be appropriate to put them together and make a sticky.

is anyone around Iowa going? Maybe I could ride along with? Skeptical on going by myself lol. Not long enough in the bike game yet to have friends or "connections" around the states to help if something goes wrong with the bike. the bike has 11k miles on it and I put about 1000 miles on it last summer, would it make the 15 hr ride for me? I've also never ridden on the interstate on a bike yet.

    Hi Grimmith:

To be honest, it does sound like a dodgey plan: a 15 hour ride on unfamiliar roads, including an international border, on a 42 year old bike. That would be a tall order for a person with many years of experience.....

Nonetheless, it would be great to have you come to the CVMG Rally - could you possibly trailer your bike?

    Pete

You know when you say it like that it just makes it more clear for me to not risk it lol but the adventure screams my name ..I could trailer my bike, I just need a trailer, and a vehicle to drive 15 hrs. I have piston rings going out in my current vehicle and in the process of finding a new one. I think I may have to sell the bike i was making a race bike to pay for the new car :(
