72 XS2 wiring help please!! Safety switch and starter solenoid

All right!! I think I finally have it.

So what I said about hooking up the wire's like in my last pic was indeed wrong. This is where guy's are taking their wiring apart, like me, and just matching up the color's, then realizing they have some left over safety relay wire's to deal with.

But now,, I THINK we finally have the correct way to do it. Thanks Jerm!! You da Man.

Please tell me this is correct. Then I can move on to the headlight bucket.

Thanks. The stop switch and flasher relay already have the matching color coded wires going to them. These brown wires are straight off the regulator. Or whatever this is.

Mailman just completed a very comprehensive restoration of a XS2. Anything you are going to do he probably did. Very educational and entertaining read. http://www.xs650.com/threads/mailman’s-xs2-a-full-on-restoration.51520/
Another read that may help. http://www.xs650.com/threads/its-past-time-to-start-xs2-resurrection.53396/

You just need to take apart the 2 browns and connect them to the 2 in your hand.

In the Tech section Skull has a very good wiring diagram for the XS2. The one in the manuals are not correct. Not sure which post it is.

Edit: Never mind

Would be great if you started a thread about your bike and the trial and tribulations of it. Quite a few XS2 nuts here. Oh yay we also like pics.

That’s awesome. My first street bike was a XS1 that I put together out of boxes of parts and pieces on my moms 3rd floor condo patio when I was seventeen. Like 40 years ago. It was a Frankenstein but I loved it. That’s why I wanted to do another. I’ve been doing CB750s for a while now but always loved the beauty of the Yamahas. Especially the red XS2. This is what I started with and this is where I’m at. Roland Stuart is building my motor and almost done. The guy I bought the bike from painted EVERYTHING!,,, The paint came right off but the primer was difficult.

Your project is looking great, please keep us updated as things go back together. When I first saw your photos with that engine painted WHITE, I just about choked! Haha! :laugh2: I thought for a minute that’s what you were doing!
