Wanted - 77 Seat latch guts

Please hook a rider up so his seat no longer flops around.

My 1977 xs650 needs the lower latch mechanism for its seat.

Often lost part. The screws come loose and it falls off. My buddy lost 3 so far, lol. I suggest searching eBay. Here's what you're looking for .....

And here's the part listing from Yamaha. As you can see, this lock was used on several other models besides the 650, so search them all .....

Mine was missing off my '78 when I got it. I scrounged one from an XS500 and re-keyed the lock to match the 650 key.
 
Yes, a little Loctite wouldn't hurt. Also, be sure to use the correct type of screw, it's a beveled flat head ....

You can see how the holes in your frame are beveled for it. This is the reason my buddy was losing so many of these. His '80G model is one of the few that doesn't take the beveled screw, it just uses a normal M6 bolt - but he was attaching them with the beveled screws, lol. There is no bevel on his frame holes so the screws didn't tighten down into the frame, they just sat on top. That wasn't enough to hold them tight.
