This is my first post...I've owned a 1979 XS650 Special for about a year now. Just got done doing a top end rebuild (cam chain guide went bad). Now I'd like to make a few aesthetic changes before I put the engine back in. Gonna change seats and handlebars. I've been using the stock '79 king and queen seat with the backrest cut off (covered in gorilla tape) for the whole time ive owned it. I couldn't stand the king and queen so I modified it shortly after purchasing the bike.
I'd now like to use a seat off my cousin's '78 SR500 (He no longer needs it). I sat the seat on the bike and it rode really high on the bike, because it hit the two old seat mounts and the helmet lock. After cutting them off it sits alot nicer. I included a picture of how it sat before and after cutting off the stuff. I was wondering if anyone has used this seat before and if so, what is a good sturdy way to attach it?
