78 xs650 carburetors

Hey guys- I’m resurrecting my 78 xs650 and have an issue where the bike has a hesitation at 3k rpms and makes a “pop” out the pod filters when I let off the throttle. Otherwise, the throttle is smooth and responsive. Any thoughts about carb adjustments?

From the looks of your little pic, it seems you've done the "pipes and pods" mods? If so and you haven't re-jetted, that's probably the issue. The usual routine for your carb set and those mods would be one up on the pilots, 2 or 3 up on the mains, and lean the needles a step.

Check your rubber carb joints for leaks. Read the carb guide in the tech threads. If it hasn't run in a while the carb joints tend to leak. I pull the carbs off and wash the joints in hot water and dish soap.
