79 Special II RestoCustom "Doomy"

Still trying to bend the stock trim to fit my cafe seat. The needed profile radius is very difficult..
Sure wish I had a 22" Cafe seat ready.

Quarantine time keeps reminding me that It's not even my "plans" that are shaping Doomy
Doomy is on a path of her own.
Seat trim on hold now for options shopping at an auto body shop, soon?
But look where the badges are headed with painted close to match side covers in the works. I'll paint some gold on the side cover badges and blend it all to match with clear coat.

Did figure out a decent routing for twin front brake lines even though the hydraulic line shop is still closed. :( my twin calipers are patiently waiting for the brake hook up.

And thanks to the extra time to wait for paint to dry I did paint the handle bar risers to match other triple clamp items.
The position of the bars and windshield is set to accommodate all the cable routing and give an almost flat bar position thanks to the adjustability of the Tomasellis
Why not another look.

I need shops open please!

Well, my "Doomy" project has been completely ignored lately unfortunately. As a matter of coincidence, just this weekend I cleared out my too small garage just enough to get a current pic.
All the wind has left my sails for my motorcyling garage time during this pandemic shut down. That and Summer time came. Some of the XS650.com members should realize after the years. I contribute bike threads that I mostly work on my bikes after the holidays. During winter hoping for a spring completion. Well, that just didn't happen with Doomy. It got to difficult to source and complete the project for now. I still have no usable front brake lines or even a usable seat. I have however continued finding a few bits such as a nice front fender to replace my cut down one. And I've sourced Triumph shocks and a great rack for the 78E. I intend to start a new thread about both of my XS's together in the future. They are kinda like sisters in mods now. They will be quite a pair someday.
For now, I can just continue slowly ahead. Playing in the summer time as usual, hoping as we all are for motorcycling to return to a more normal state.
I truly miss bike shows, swap meets, and parts sourcing in person, meeting up with other motorcyclists and enjoying all that.
Pray for those times again.

Hey Randy, it looks great! I have a 72 and 75, and haven't studied the newer bikes or specials, but it appears that you used the fender mounts for the signals and modified your fender mounting. I love it. Very clean and simple.

Yes David, stored safe and sound. But not just in storage. A little at a time is still going on. I just don't want to bore you guys with little accomplishments any longer.
:lmao:
I'll start a new thread one of these days for both of em.
Hey you all gotta admit, "Doomy" came a long way from that first pic. Was a near miss for spring riding. Partly my own slowness and partly world happenings that just are out of our control
 one day at a time now -R

Current XS Garage times just keep on altering what "Doomy" will turn out like. That little custom seat has taken quite a bit of thinking as well as time.

Now, as the garage is back into project mode, while working on the 78E, this Special II seat has come into the mix.

I need a custom seat still. A length just between the two would be great. So, I took the Special II seat apart to cut or grind the pan a smidge off of both ends and am going to reshape the foam to have more of a cafe shape.
Hey, at least the pan fits the shape of the frame. Well, just thought I'd throw this out too as again, I'm juggling two XS projects. The 78E is waiting for a couple items..
