Jack Hayes (Gunner Hayes) was my mother's eldest brother. He was born some time around 1925, the first of 13 children. His father (my grandfather) served in the trenches The Great War as a machine gunner. Jack served in the Navy for 30 years, having signed on during WWII. He rose to the rank of WO4. There are many stories about him that I wish I had heard about while he was still living. He was a very colorful character. I still have most of our email correspondence.

Anyway, I do not know where or when this picture was taken. A surviving uncle said he had a 1927 and a 1929 Harley-Davidson. Clearly, this one is later. The jacket is likely a Schott Perfecto. Anyway, I love the picture and I love it more because it is my Uncle Jack!

Enjoy!

You guys should have those digitally restored amazing what they can do.
Mine already was. It's a small b&w photo in an album my mother has. A friend of mine did that on some sort of high tech scanner. He enhanced it as best he could. You're looking at an iPhone shot of my print.

This is my wild child uncle John, my dads brother, the one that lit the fire in me to own a motorcycle. He had a string of Brit bikes in the 60’s and 70’s, he was very much the free spirit and my conservative parents were terrified I would wind up just like him. Sorry for the grainy photos, the black and white is an Ariel back in the early 60’s, the rest you can see. The last photo he was in his 70’s and still rocking. God love him! ;)
