Acid on my Exhaust

checked my old batter topped up the cells and went for a little blast. came back and the Acid from the batterhas splattered all over my left hand reverse cone and oxidised my chrome Dam ...:banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:
Just got a gell battery maintinace free ,,,cleaned the exhaust up but I need to replace it.
Oh well :doh:
 
yeah it's very rare to find an XS that DOESN'T have acid stains on the LH pipe. Battery overflow tube, hmmm. I'd get a voltmeter on the bike, see how it acts in use. Maint free don't like overcharging either.
 
Yeah typical on the street should be from 12 to about 14 volts measured at the battery terminals. I like to put a volt meter on and ride it. Could reveal a condition you might not see in the garage. I keep one with long wires to reach back to the battery, attach it to the handlebars to take a looky see on the road.
