So I bought this the other day. Cleaned carbs and replaced the plugs and now it kicks over on first or second kick. Hilarious looking to me but I have been wanting a xs650 for a while now and capitalized on a awesome deal. The forks are forking by frank and i think maybe i like them. I can't bring myself to paint over the tank so I bought a new one already, paint, brat kit, licence/brake light kit and will be ordering new exhaust as soon as the fab guy is available to do it "couple weeks". A little powder coating, engine paint and a front brake and I think I may have something here! Anyway glad to be here.

yes... they seem to run better when they are serviced, eh?
I like those pipes. are they baffled?

Plenty of room to check oil. Got a bunch of parts laying around! Hope to get to it in a week at the most. Sanded a little oxidation off of the covers and forks and had the pipes powder coated. WI'll be wrapping them when i find the titanium wrap i want. "Try to buy local when i can". Kinda progress.

Na just buffed them with a buffing wheel. No no compound or anything on them. Just hit it with a buffing wheel. I was surprised how easy 36 years of weathered metal looked after rubbing on it a little so I took a picture.

That paint is gorgeous. I just joined this forum recently (after picking up a XS650 special)
and I`m surprised how many of these there are left around still and surprised even farther then how many folks chop them.

Thank you. Almost my first time really painting anything with a paint gun. At least the first time getting something right. Yeah these are a great power plant to work on. Lots of aftermarket parts also
