Another Tapered Steering bearing question

Just changed my headstem bearings and races with the SSY500 bearings from the usual supplier.

Is it true these bearings are a little higher ie 1/4 inch.

It seems my top plate is a little higher. Both races were seated by a guy who knows S##T

Yes the top sits a little higher, AND yes it is very easy to not get the races fully seated.

Assuming the races are fully seated, the space between the triple clamps is still wider. The last one I did, I sourced a couple of fat rubber packings (o'rings) with an ID of approximately 34 mm. That took up the slack, so the fork ears don't rattle.

They look seated to me.

If they are not seated properly they will seat after a few miles. Best to keep an eye on the adjustments for awhile.
