Re. the leading link front end, Sachs used that system on 125 cc. dirt bikes way back in the day. Re. the bang-to-buck ratio, the marketplace will give the message, and I don't think the Janus guys will like it very much.

Irony is......we may be reduced to only being able to own and ride this class of motorcycle in the near future, that is if motorcycles with combustion engines will be allowed to ride the streets at all. Sound ridiculous? Wait and see!!!!!!

    Hi Downeaster,
if you don't like the bike then slagging the product is OK. But whining about the price ain't.
If the bike was imported from somewhere in the far east that has no EPA and pays it's workers $5 a day then it'd sell for $3K.
The extra $4K is the cost of building the bike in the USA and paying the workers a decent wage.

The only thing built in the USA is probably the frame. The rest of the labor is assembling sub-assemblies that are cheap imports. $7000 compared to others in or near its market? Come on Fred.

    Hi Scott,
oddly, that very same US assembly of imported parts seems to work OK for Harley-Davidson, eh?

For $7k you could have two nice xs650s that are better bikes all around obviously. Also the main point is depreciation!

Janus bike in 10 years $7000 to $700

    1970s xs650 standard $3500 to $4000

Where you been, Fred? Nothing is working OK for Hardly Ableson, and hasn't for awhile. They got by for years, putting a premium price on image with next to nothing spent on product development, and it's caught up with them. The new HD product line has proven to be too little, too late, and their $30,000 electric bike is a joke. Indian-Polaris actually produces bikes with more than a label to justify the price tag, and that's where HD's market share is going. Re. Janus: just how many manhours do you think it takes to assemble one of those little bikes in a professional environment? Wage differential won't account for that big a chunk of a $7000 price tag on what has to amount to less than $3000 of parts.

It's a free country (as of this morning anyway...) and it's my right to bitch about anything I care to bitch about.

Everyone else on the planet has the right to disagree with me, but that's unlikely to change my mind.

  14. According to their website, everything is made by Janus and domestic suppliers, with only a few international suppliers. Those are
    • Light System
    • Calipers and master cylinder
    • Engine (China)
    • Air Filter
    • Carburetor (Kei Hin Technology)
    • IKON Suspension (Australia)

I dunno, everyone else has EFI on almost every new bike. From dirtbikes and scooters all the way to the fastest supersports and biggest touring bikes EFI is there. Even the grom and its competitors that cost under $3k new have EFI.

I just think for $7k it should have a little more to it than a carb on a 250. I think an SR400 is overpriced, so this thing is way overpriced.

    Hi grizld1,
for the last 25 years I've been in Saskatoon SK where H-D ownership is ~50% and Redline H-D is still flourishing as part of Ffun motor group.
Mind you, I'd never buy one but there's still those that do. As for Polaris, fuck 'em. The bikes & sleds may be nice but Polaris sucks.
The bastards set up bigtime in Beausejour MB on a Provincial Grant, lured a workforce into moving there and then did a moonlight flit when the subsidy ran out.

Check the financial news, Fred: HOG (that's the ticker name) stock price has gone south for a couple of years due to shrinking sales. Admittedly motorcycle sales as a whole have been off, but HD has been among the hardest hit, while Indian has been doing very well indeed.

Crazy how Harley Davison had such a money maker going for them and they are ruining it by going overseas. Most of thier market appeal is made in USA American badass. Then they just forget about that, crazy. Even trump was mad.
