Battery box rust What's best way to deal with it.

I've always used Evapo-Rust on old rifle & shotgun parts. Leave them in as long as you like, works great. I've also played with electrolysis. Nice fun hobby and works good.

If your gun parts are blued you don't want to leave them in the EvapoRust any longer than needed to remove the rust. Any longer and it removes the blueing.
I bought a mall bottle to try derusting some scope mounts. Got busy with other things and left them overnight. No longer blued, plain bare steel.
I now keep a gallon around for when needed.

Couple more pics, the pint of rust remover ran out of action after about 12 of those collets and some other small parts. dumped and used a fresh batch to finish up.

That looks like some impressive stuff Gary. Think I'll give it a try.

When your done de-rusting paint it with POR-15. I did that to BMW seat pan that was badly rusted.

Norton tank is getting electrolysis. Piece of rebar welded to a piece of 3/16" rod to maneuver it. Slid it into some tubular webbing as a don't let it touch the tank shield. Tank has an internal baffle so it's a bit of a challenge. Breathless waiting, and results to follow. LOL

Was a great day for electrolysis, 90F in the sun with the charger dumping in about 120 watts continuously.
chunk of rebar with a stiff rod welded to it.

covered in a hollow sling so it wouldn't touch the tank and short out the charger

After just a few minutes

Inside before I started it really wasn't that bad. I had only done some toss in a chain and shake action at this point.

Residue after about 3 hours.

Stuck my finger in tank between rod and neck, gives a noticeable sting. o_O

Pretty much everything you ever needed to know about electrolysis here.
