Battery box

I just started taking apart my 1977 650 and trying to remove the metal frame or box the battery was in. Do I have to remove the rear wheel and fender to remove the battery box? I've taken all the components off the box but it doesn't fit through the sides where the air cleaner was.

The easiest way is to remove the rear wheel and the plastic inner fender. It will come out through the side but I can't tell you exactly how. It's one of the 650's "Rubik Cubes", lol.

Like pulling carbs out of a V45 Magna. When you got it, you'll know it, but ya can't describe it to nobody!

Finally figured it out, after taking off all the components and loosening a few of the plastic fender bolts, I twisted and turned the box out the left side...

yes, I had a real head scratcher with mine as well, that is why on my restoration thread I mentioned that I needed to prime and paint that right away because I am DEFINITELY putting it in through the rear when I re assemble...

Just stripping a 79. Bashed the battery box with a hammer. That got it out.
