Battery Problem

My problem: my batteries keep going bad. I have an early ascension cycle works/XS charging system (stator and rectifier) that is 4-5 years old, my last battery, a Motobatt AGM lasted around 3 months.My electrical meter says I have 12.5 volts, but when I apply a load, my meter indicates my battery is bad. My neutral light barely lights up. I have had battery issues before but this is the earliest my battery has gone bad. Can anyone tell me how I might check if the rectifier is bad and also how I might check if the stator is putting out the proper current and not sending too many volts to the rectifier. Needless to say I will need a new battery, I have been using AGM batteries because they provide more cranking power. I have a 72 XSB 650 with a working electric starter (when my battery is good!).

Long ago, I went thru a couple of stock 12N5.5 batteries rather quickly. Maybe a vibration thing? Now using a pair of small 4.5ah AGM batteries, packed in foam. A couple of threads to review:
