Beach cruiser build

So after a few hours of head scratches and double and triple checking connections and current I Believe I sorted it out.

I kept getting all sorts of wacky readings back at the fuse box, all seemed well brought the switch but would get a good reading for a moment, then go bad at the fuse box. Enough so that it was making me question all my connections. I could get a running light on my tail light (led so very little power required to run it and it was intermittent).

I didn’t have my signals hooked up and it seems the power wire running to the signals was dangling off the side and resting on a wheel bolt causing my fuse box to ground out.

I ran out of time to hook my lights back up and give it all a test again to see if that’s for certain the problem.

I did also have a problem with my handlebar switch not making great contact but that was a side problem I sorted while figure if out the power issue.

Everything is new.

This might give you some ideas,
The old block on a Radian

a bit of dremel cut off wheel work on the old holders

and they bolted right onto the new block, bingo-bango done.

So problem solved.

turned out to be the dangling power wire causing intermittent grounding AND some crusty leads at the original head light. I scrubbed em really good (or so I thought) initially but it wasn’t enough. Had to do it again really really good.

for anyone’s reference here is my fuse box. (Had to put a 20amp fuse in cause the 15 blew when grounding out, ran outta 15s but I’ll change it out)

and we got headlight and taillight. (bad pic makes it look real dim but it’s not)

Can someone tell me if I should have continuity between all the poles on my head light??

I currently do and I believe it’s causing me problems.

I don’t have another one to compare it to and I couldn’t find any definitive answer searching.

I know my Honda does not.

Please. Where did you source this? Does it fit in the same space as OEM? Are those red lights on until the fuse opens?

i got mine off Amazon. Look for boat fuse box. About 12 bucks. Couldn’t tell you if they fit the oem placement or not. My original bike still has oem fuses.

the local autozone had some nicer ones but they had spade connectors like Jim’s and I thought they may rattle loose so I opted for the screw down box.

if Jim’s had one installed for 8 years, rattling loose doesn’t seem to be a problem

No, it was my inner 8 yr old that took it apart to see how it ticked... :sneaky:
Been on the bike about 2 yrs.

my bad. Read that with my 1 year old crawling on me haha.

either way.

if it’s been on their 2 years with no rattling apart, seems like those connections should work fine.

A slow update to keep myself accountable haha.

Got distracted again with a few boards a had to build.

But i managed to get a bit more done.

Welded up a battery box and remade my side covers.

Initially I built them out of fiberglass but I wasn’t happy with the flex pattern and I’m still not sold on having them painted so I got some 18gage steel and made en out of that. Being so close to the exhaust I may run em raw with a “patina” and high temp clear but I’m still up in the air on that. Once I get my tank painted I’ll make a decision (tanks will be a black and white unless I change my mind while I’m paining it, which is quite possible).

Also decided I wanted a kill switch but didn’t have a place for it on my slim switch so I pulled the internals out of this push button and hid it inside a more 60s triumph-esk/Lucas switch.

I realize this switch isn’t the most robust so I am gonna wire it to just cut power to the key and if it fails I’ll easily be able to just unplug it.

Seat was delivered yesterday.

you can tell the pans are homemade and kinda rough but over all a nice seat.

delivery was fast and is exactly as pictured and described.

still a little bigger than I’d like but I think it’ll do.

just gotta figure out a good way to mount it as the PO chopped off all the tabs.

Really nice work on the Boards, I'm no surfer but appreciate good work.
The bike is shaping up nicely too.

I really like the way your bike is shaping up! I like the parcel rack on the tank, it has that Triumph TR6 vibe!
I had also meant to comment on your surf boards. If I’m not interrupting your build thread, I’m curious do you just do custom one off boards for individuals? Do you own a surf shop? They look like works of art!

Bike is looking great. I am enjoying following this build. I like the seat, but I think it may look a little more balanced with a little longer rear fender...:twocents:

Soo the more I look at the seat, the more I’m less convinced I like it. It looks unbalanced, I agree and I think the seat is just too big. I have another option I’m working on so it will most likely end up on the chopping block.
