Ducati and Ben Spies have jointly announced his retirement from racing. Former AMA Superbike Champion was injured during the 2012 Malayasian Moto GP.

Both shoulders jacked up on end has got to be hard. Had higher hopes for him in GP, and was a little disappointed he didn't defend the WSB title after winning it in his rookie and only season in 09. Spies raced 14 rounds, 28 races in his sole year in WSB and won HALF of the 28 races that year with 11 pole positions and 17 podium finishes.
He pretty much beat Mat Mladin into retirement in the AMA. Word is, at the end of his AMA years, he never called Mladin by name, only referring to him as "that motherfucker"

1 AMA Superstock championship
1 AMA Formula Extreme championship
3 AMA Superbike championship
1 WSB championship

I can't imagine he'll be totally absent from racing circles in the future.
