No idea what is going on... New build, can be seen here: http://www.xs650.com/forum/showthread.php?t=38568&highlight=Omaha

The bike Kicks over and starts typically the first kick can get it to run nicely for about 3 mins, then lights dim... it sputters then it dies. IF I wait about 5 minutes I can do it all over again....

Details:
1.) Battery Voltage starts at 12.36 with everything off.
2.) Battery Voltage drops to 11.37 with the ignition and headlight/tail light on.
3.) I kick it over it runs. Runs great for about 3 mins, however the voltage continually drops until at 8.91 volts, then the lights dim, bike sputters and dies.
4.) WEIRD PART!!! Once everything is off, the voltage on the battery rises slowly back up to 11.37 within 5 mins.
5.) I then can restart with no problem happens again. Time after time this happens.

WHAT IS GOING ON? LOL

Here is the background: 1980 XS650, TCI - Stock, Charging System Stock, New Regulator, New Battery but not stock size...

Battery (may be the issue) this is what I am using: BikeMaster TruGel Battery MG4L-BS, http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...age_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1&tag=viglink20998-20

Battery Specs: Capasity 4 ; 114mm Long, 71mm wide, 86mm Height; Weight 1.7kg; Normal Charging amps 0.4 - Max Charging amps 1.2; CCA 50.

Any thoughts or ideas anyone?

It goes slowly down when it is running from 12 v to 8.9 is where it sputters then dies roughly 2-3mins. Then I cant get it to start until about 5 mins later then the step repeats.

check your charging system, sounds like you are using up the amps the battery has, and the unit is not charging, make sure your stator windings have at least 5 ohms resistance.

Your charging system is not working. There are two likely culprits.
Check the resistance of the rotor slip rings, and check each slip ring to ground. To ground should be infinity resistance, and between the rings should be at least 4 ohms.
Check the length of the rotor brushes. There is a wear mark that should be visible.

This is how long a new brush is.
