Bushing adapter for petcock

Hello

My gas tank has a 5/8" bung and I cannot find any petcock of that size. I have found a 3/8" petcock so I was wondering if anybody here would be able to make a bushing adapter going from 5/8" male to a 3/8" female? Would that be easier? or I should weld a 3/8" bung over the one its on the tank already?

any ideas please?

Straight thread or tapered? IIRC 1/2 npt is closer to 5/8" so maybe a reducer bushing?

I have seen that bushing, Im just not sure if a 1/2" NPT will fit, I think it will fit loose. Im stopping by my hardware store today and find out exactly if I have that option. Cause if it fits good i will definitively pick that one up!

So it turns out my memory did fail me. 3/8 npt is 5/8" outside diameter...

have you tried screwing a petcock into it yet?

Take your tank with you to the hardware store. Try fittings till you find one that fits. Once you know what fits, adapters will be easy to get.
Is the tank painted yet? If not welding in a new bung should be easy.

So i went to the hardware store and they told me it is a 3/8 NPT bung, not a 5/8. They also told me there is no 5/8 NPT so i found the answer to this problem. I appreciate the help guys! Thanks a lot!
