Bushyboy's build thread

@billy icon vintage spoke did finally refund me, but never even sent an email. I got the impression after reading some of their negative comments that the guy is kinda an arse. If you read two many’s thread on valve geometry he covers the Kedo adjuster. You don’t have to shorten them or remove the head. I was told the kedos are a little tricky to adjust since they swivel.

hmmmm. I have also seen a photo online, where the ball is just sitting next to the adjuster, like they are not "married" or "one piecs" so if thats the case then the ball would only stay with the adjuster if you ahd nice tight adjument on the litter oops I mean rocker... and so I belive the ball "could" or " would come ou if left too loose,

and as for the vintage asspoke..hehe se what I did there.. as for him, I wouldnt doubt the way he oppereates is to have you purchase them from hime, and he just "drop shipps them to you, he never even sees them if im right, he just takes your 120.00 dollars and pays them 90 and tells them your address is the shipping address ,ive actually gotton alot of stuff off ebay that is in an amazon box and delivered by amazon,

I would asume the adjustment it the same (dificuly level 11) because yours swivel too, and I can kinda see it in my head... think of it like this...a chinese finger trap... when your pushing te feeler gauge in it want to swivel and get tighter, when your pulling the feeler gauge out the same motion swivels the head back and you guessed it tries to get tighter, ( not liierany tighted, just percived tightness to your hand

Something to consider,

The tappet adjuster screws are threaded 8 x 1.0mm, about 0.040" per turn. That works out to 9° of turn to get 0.001". I run the adjuster down to contact with the valve stem, then back off 30° (for the intake), and 60° for the exhaust, and lock down the nuts.

Checking the resulting clearances with feeler gauges, two of the valves hit dead-on first try, the other two were within 0.001".

i love imfo like that TwoManyXS1Bs ... that amazing math you did there.
im gonna try and revive my other thread here about cam specs and timing between the 447 cam the xs1 cam and I hope busyeyed can fill in the imfo on the shell cam, Im thinking from what im reading the cam timing has alot more to do with the power or maybe just the power band then the cam "profile" seems the xs650 cams (all of them ) are actually quite old tech, and even the racing cams are still kinda old tech, Im asuming the head desighn or the valve geometry cant handle a newer tech "profile " that would bring to life the Power, or someone would allready be making them? yes? no?

Can anyone tell me if this is normal and maybe I just noticed it? All my adjusters are slightly off center to the right of the center of the valve. I am not sure if this is just this way so the valves rotate during operation. I have new valve springs and they are not progressive. Everything on the rocker cover is lined up with the head and the rocker and cam appear to be sitting where they should be. The valve springs are at the installed height of the manufacture recommendations of 1.445” - 1.455”

+1 thats what rotates the valve at least in therey ... i know in v8 engines the lifters do not center on the cam lobes, this causes the lifter to spin and then in turn spin the pushrod, in a v8 engine you can put a paint pen murk up and down the pushrod with the valve cover off, and if you dont see it spinn with the egine running you have a "flat lobe" thats a way to test without tearing down the engine...... but hmmmmm as im thinking about it, I dont se the liftter in our engines being able to overcome the friction of the valve spring keeper and spinn the valve..ok now Im not sure if it spins the valve, but I still +1agree that they are slightly ofset on xs650 engines our ocd is a good thing, some guys dont notice much when assembling an engine, then some of us notice EVERYTHING :umm:

A little bit of Merika from today’s flight while I still wait on my master link. I also replaced the rubber on my TT500 kickstart lever yesterday. I got plans to mount my tool bag to the side coming soon. Hopefully the master link gets here soon.

Yep I was one of the pilots flying the helicopter, but I'm the good looking one on the other side unfortunately.

Kicking myself in the butt every day I see the engine sitting there. If I had known it was going to take this long to get the master link I would have split the cases. Hindsight is 20/20 though I guess I could have ordered it with the cam chain too.

What kind of master link do you need? I ask because Yamaha still sells both the D.I.D. and Tsubaki master links.

I've been getting my chains from Yamaha lately, their price is about the best. I get the Tsubaki chain and although the parts pics seem to show an endless version, they have all come split and with a master link .....

@5twins I had originally bought the DID 219 FT master link but the chain I got is a DID 219 FTH and The bushing has a slightly smaller inner diameter than the FT link so I could only find the FTH link from the seller in Norway. I didn’t buy it in the beginning because it was quite a bit more expensive than the normal FT link. Mikesxs sells the DID 219 FTS and FTS master link which I don’t know if the FTS would fit with he FTH.

I am about to give up on waiting for the correct cam chain master link for the new DID 219FTH chain I installed. The old chain is still in good condition, but I just was wondering if someone knew a good length measurement to see if it is too stretched? It is a DID 219FT and I really don’t know if it was the stock or ever replace, but if it wasn’t it has about 20K miles on it. I ordered the master link on April 25th and if it isn’t here by June 1st I will start trying to get my money back I guess. Really do want to go with the new chain, but itching to get it on the road.
