camshaft doesn't turn

1979 650 special, the bike just died. It is getting power to the points but the camshaft is not turning when I crank the motor. I can grab the nut on the end and turn it by hand. Does this mean the cam chain is broken, and how hard is it to change?

Sounds like it. You have to tear the top end down to replace it.
