Hey, I just switched put on a Avon cobra mt9016 74h rear tire on my 78 hardtail and the clearance between the chain and the tire is only about 3/8 of an inch. I have out about 200kms on it and I can't really tell if it is damaging the tire but it still worries me about riding and blowing the rear tire. Is 3/8 clearance enough? Thanks for any input.

Any amount of clearance is enough if it's not touching. If you can't see any wear from the chain your probably good. Though you should keep an eye on it and check it often.

yeah no worries that chain won't ever do enough wear on the tire to worry about. Besides the tire is thickest right there. I've belt sanded that corner off tires that hit the fender.

Thanks for the info. I will rest a little easier when heading down the highway. Here is a picture of her.
