Show the pics , You mentioned it’s a “Standard” Cafe seat ? Pics of pan too.
I have the 78 Special seat
Here are pics. I know the 78s are a bit wonky with the seat, so maybe I'm missing something???
Haven’t found what “kickstand” you are referring to? This 79 Cafe bike I’m fixing would look good with your Cafe seat but the frame is already “smoothed” and drilled for a flat seat, unfortunately.
Still thinkin on this.
Thank you, -R
Kickstand is the little rod in the center that keeps the seat from going too far over.
That Seat looks lovely and I'd gladly accept it as trade
I believe the confusion on my end is in fact in the title of this posting. “Mikes Standard Cafe Seat” A 78 Standard seat does not have that “kick stand” prop. The Special seat does. So I have to wonder how Mikes XS titled and sold the seat . It appears too difficult for me to adapt being my frame rails are flat.
It’s interesting. Thank you -R
My bike is a '78 Special and the seat I have does not have the kickstand, and when I purchased it from another member it was listed as a standard seat. I bought it in the hopes of adapting it, but have changed my mind since then.
I believe the seat you have is exactly what I need, so if you feel it's worth the trade, I'm in.
Shoot, close but since my frame is modified I better just stick with the previous owners plan..
Good luck ! Keep my seat in mind.
I fabricated my cafe seat like you have to work with the hinge and lock, but I still had to take off the right side cover when I wanted it to open it to the side. Just an aluminum bar and some enginuity to make the side mount on the hinge and the seat lock.
Here is a picture of the underside
Interesting. Did you make your own latch? My issue seems to be that the hinges need a spacer, and the seat has studs coming out, meaning I'd need to do a threaded female piece to act as the spacer and have something to screw into.
Yes I made the latch by tracing the stock one and using a dremel. I used some of the spacers and grommets that came off the stock seat and the mikes seat as well. I took off the cover and foam and drilled holes and used bolts with lock tight to hold the braces onto the seat. You may be able to use some heavy rivets, because it really doesn’t support weight just keeps the seat in place.
Ah, you removed the cover and foam, which I should do to do the swap right. Dunno do I'm willing to do that much work right now, haha. But if this avenue fails me, then I might do that.
Price for the seat delivered to nj 07032?
I'll get back to you with that. Thanks!
Should have a price tomorrow, thanks.
Update: now needing to sell the Mikes seat as I purchased @Machine seat.
So, anyone in need of the cafe seat?
the Cafe Seat is Cool ! and certainly not getting any easier to find. Somebody better look again !
The Mike's XS cafe seats look great and I can't understand why they no longer offer them. The must be poor sellers. There are other offerings, especially concerning the Special II.
The prices are good, but shipping will hurt a bit. If you have a standard, this Mike's XS opportunity may be a good deal!
I agree! I'm not looking to get rich, just want to break even from the other seat purchase
Bumping this back up, need the seat gone. $215 shipped anywhere in the lower 48. Can ship immediately.
