Crank Main Bearing removal...what am I missing?

We used them on the flightline to test for overheated brakes.

Years ago I changed rear axial bearings on my car. My friend who was a fitter showed me how. He used a grinder to take a nick out of the outer race then hit it with a cold chisel and hammer. It cracked and then came off spilling balls everywhere. Then did the same to the inner race. Didn't take a lot of hammering at all. On my old XS1B years ago the outer crank bearing came off easily by levering with the taper on a slotted screw driver - no hammering required, just gentle tapping. Then heated the new bearing and it dropped back on easily - Lucky I guess.
