I did a little cutting this afternoon on the 81. I received a box of goodys from omars last week so I thought I should do some fitting, Im still waiting on the back ordered tank so I cant fit the fender until it arrives.

I found a few parts on my door step a few days ago so I get to do a little more mocking up on the tracker. I got a set of pod filters from 650 central and a set of shell racing pipes and mufflers from Hoos racing out of Davenport Iowa. I really like the pipes but I'm going to have to a little cutting and fitting to make them fit to my liking. I then have to make some brackets to hold everything. I'm still waiting for my tank from Omars its been on back order for 5 weeks now, I hope it gets here soon.

No they are not. You have to get them where you want and then weld them up. I'm new to all of this, do you weld the flange on the head pipe or is it loose like the stock pipes?

Leave the headpipe flange free. then the pipes are able to move a little. I would try to come up with some way to keep the pipe/silencer able to come apart.

I rebuilt my $50 junk yard rim today. I had it soda blasted to get the old paint off. I then spent two hours polishing and three hours masking before I layed down a coat of self etch primer and then a top coat of stainless steel colored epoxy paint. I think it came out killer looking.

After waiting 3 months for my gas tank it finally arrived. I did some fitting this afternoon after work so now is starting to look like something. I had to take off the back up lighting box so the seat pan would clear. I don't plan on driving at night often so I'm getting rid of the stock light and replacing it with a pair of small halogen units with no high beams hidden behind a number plate. Can I just unplug the back up light box and not run it or do I have to do something else?

Hey scrambled, I found the bars on the omars site, they are called slideways bars. All of the cables fit but the master cylinder is at an angle so that my have to be changed down the road some day.

I scored a disk brake rear swing arm and all the bits that go with it today for the tracker. Im having a problem getting the wheel off. What am I doing wrong or is the axle just rusted in the wheel. I've tapped on the nut side thinking that the axle should slide out but it doesnt move. I thought I would ask the experts before I broke out the B.F.H.http://www.xs650.com/forum/images/smilies/wtf.gif

I gave it a soak and gave it a good whack with the B.F.H. and it came loose. The caliper bracket was seized onto the axle shaft. Your right John Pb blaster is great stuff.

I've been so busy at work I havent had time to work on the tracker. I did make a little headway the last few days shaving the forks and drilling the rotors. I guess I have all winter to mess around.

More progress. I polished my caliper and bracket and freshened up my rotors after drilling them. I made a tool to mount the rotor in to the drill press then used emery paper to give them a sand (thanks for the idea retiredgentleman)

When you are assembling shit that has to come apart again use some nickel antisieze compound, especially axles and the like. Use a small brush, you don't need much, its quite expensize but my tin is 30 years old and still got plenty.
