hi have had my engine rebuilt and noticed some oil on top of the engine I think it needs re torking . it has been run for about 1 to 2 hrs since rebuild can some one convert picture from pounds to nm for me I know its all in the manual but im scared of mistakes please make it easy for a dummy like me. this site been an absolute gold mine for me ow you all big favours . thanks riv

You mean after the motor work? I would think possibly if the valve adjustments are out of spec, but I would lean more towards that carb/intake setup. I'm by no means a restoration nazi but if you're going to make a big change away from stock like that you need to know exactly what you're getting into. Try wrapping the air filter with a t shirt for a few cranks and see if that helps...if not, pull the filter and try to start it without a filter. If you get improvement one way or another you've got some fuel delivery homework to do. Also pull the filter and block air flow into the carb for a few cranks, then put air filter back on and see if that helps. That's the Rube Goldberg choke method. Again, if any of this helps the carb is your problem.
 
yea im leaning towards fuel delivery tried on off with filter but the idea of restricting air sounds a good idea thanks . will try when ive finished de rusting inside tank in a couple of days. its quite bad in there . once started seems to run quite sweet will know better when I ride it which is really really really soon !!!!!!.

found problem dam elllectrex world rotor not over coils enough . put a couple of washers under coils to push them further in the rotor starts great now . ive even taken her a ride round the block a few times lovin it

pics? I'm a bit contused....
 
rotor fits on with a tapered hole rather than a key . I think that it was not machined properly and did not fit down the spline far enough to cover coils on stator plate so I put washers under coils on stator to push further in so magnet covered coils more. hope this helps any one else using electrex world ignitions . had me stumped for quite a while with erratic starting . just need to get jetting sorted now but im close I think so far amal 930 carb with 19 pilot 108 needle jet 200 main needle clip at bottom and number 3 cut away. think I will try a number 2 cut away slide next slight spitting in carb on low to mid revs while riding but so far seems rideable . still not got a clue what im doing but getting there and lovin it

do I see an AMAL carb on there? if so do you know what modal or sise it is? kinda cooool, a british carb on a xs
 
prob going to put red leather under laces . still no clue what im doing but having fun. if i ever finish it i will be lost me and my shed have become great friends

lol , trust me buddy there was a lot of blood sweat and tears just to get it ticking over if i was any good a typing i would write a book on stuff ive done . cost me a fortune just inside the engine . ive only been able to attempt something like this through the knowledge on this site . i may not be vocal on here but please believe me when i say i cant thank every one enough for all the information on this site . still not a clue what im doing but the last two years working on my xs have been rewarding heart braking its def love
