Has anyone fitted a DT 250/400 tank to their XS650 frame

Yes, front dropped right in on stock mounts. Rear mount ends up a little higher and forward of the stock mount.

Edit* you could modify the tanks rear mount to attach where the stock tank mounts.

Rat thank you for that, i am re painting the bike and thought I will change the tank at the same time, the photo is my bike with the standard tank
