Mainly a go ahead and do it thread, the early switch is a simple device. Water can enter through the key slot and head down to the contacts. Mine was a touch intermittent had to wiggle key to get the headlight on sometimes. Remove two screws visible at base of switch and out it comes. Undo plug inside headlight can, push connector out of grommet, take switch to the bench. Disassemble by removing 2 screws seen inside the base. Clean with mild solvent like mineral spirits and a toothbrush, polish the contacts, No heavy sand paper I just used a bit of Blue magic metal polish on the toothbrush. Use a bit of dielectric grease on contacts, moving parts and in (maybe) in key slot, reassemble. Mine is all better now.
