I (like a lot of others) am having trouble finding a set of OEM double-walled head pipes for my 1972 XS-2 restoration project. The only concrete differences I've found are from this PDF: http://www.biker.net/70-73_650_parts/engine/70-73_exhaust.PDF, which shows the following for the early head pipes and part numbers:
1970 XS1
1971 XS1-B
256-14611-02-00 left
256-14621-02-00 right
1972 XS-2
1973 TX650
306-14611-00-00 left
306-14621-00-00 right
My question is, for 1974 TX650, looking at this website the part number again changes in 1974. However, does anyone know what is significantly different starting in 74? If it's just a mounting tab or something that I could remove/add ? The reason I'm asking is the XS-2 head pipes are appearing to be pretty rare, and if I can use a 74/75 set of head pipes with some small modifications that opens my search window an additional two years which increases my chance to find a set.
Thanks all.
